2 Most rated best private universities in Nigeria

It will sound really ridiculous if I start this post by asking you if you wish to acquire a university degree. Of course, you should be, but what I’m not sure is whether you wish to pass through any one of the best private universities in Nigeria – bearing in mind their astronomical fees.

University education is one endeavour almost every average Nigerian clamour to have. This is due to the massive rise in educational awareness and empowerment programs across the country. We Nigerians are known for the many feats we have achieved in the academic field. There are many of our sons and daughters that are making us proud in the global affairs and good a thing most of them passed through the universities of this our noble country. We all (or rather most of us) wish to have one or more university degree(s), and I think, judging from our Nigeria context, the school attended also contributes to the quality of your degree. I believe you can agree with me. Some universities’ first class graduates are often times rated lower than some universities’ second class lower graduates. What could be the cause of that – of course, one of the causes stems from the fact that those with first class attended some low rated universities in the country. So, I think we have reached a level where we cannot just say “it’s alright, let me just enter any university first”, we are in the stage of ‘scrutiny’.

But to be a little more specific, I want to talk about private universities. You will agree with me that private universities are becoming ‘hot cakes’ in the country. This may be as a result of many factors. I sometimes cannot comprehend why many Nigerians are flooding into private universities despite some obvious disadvantages – prominent among them is the exorbitant fees. But to some extent, I think private universities are feeding fat on the opportunities opened for them by the many failures and maladministration experienced in public universities – such as the never-ending striking wahalas experienced almost every semester. Nigerians don’t entertain dull moments, they are always on the move.

Attending private universities has its own pros and cons also, but aside that it pays. There are countless numbers of them scattered across the country for you to attend. But I don’t think you really want to do that – not with the huge amount of fees you’ll have to dip into it. I’m sure you really need something that is worth your time and money; something closest to the best (if not the best). And that is why you’re reading this post about best private Universities in Nigeria. Speaking your mind?

This post is meant to save you a lot of time and money, I’m going to list just two most rated best private universities in Nigeria. I don’t want to join the band of bloggers who will get you confused with 101 best universities in Nigeria. Best is always one and I’ve tried to see the best but have been coming across these two universities fighting alongside this title. I will enlist the best 2 private universities in Nigeria first and afterwards, go into deeper review. But before I do that, let me first start by explaining the few factors that are considered globally when ranking a university.

Major Factors Considered in Ranking Universities

Academic Reputation: The academic reputation of a university is one of the major factors that is considered when a university is being ranked. It is done using a global survey. Academics are asked to identify institutions where they believe the majority of the best research in their own field of expertise are currently taking place.

Student-Faculty Ratio: The ratio of students to employed academic staff are very crucial also. The number of staff employed in relation to the number of students enrolled. There will be a keen consideration of universities that are best equipped to provide small class sizes and a good level of individual supervision.

Citations per Faculty: This has to deal with the university’s research impact.  The amount of impact the university is making to the world in terms of research and publication. Talking about citation, it refers to a piece of research being referred to within another piece of research. The more a piece of research is cited, the more influential such piece of work will become. Hence, if a piece of work that is researched in a particular university gains massive citations from different research works, then the university will gain the credit. The more cited research papers a university publishes, the more the research output of the university is strongly considered.
